TestPrompter
One prompt, for teachers

AI can make your test PDF.
It just makes it badly.

Emoji in the headings. An "aim" at the top of a paper nobody aims. Empty boxes where the font failed. Question 7 cut in half by a page break. A question from the lesson you generated an hour ago. That is not the model being dumb, that is a weak prompt. Pick your settings below, copy the prompt, attach your material, send, and get a PDF you can put straight on the photocopier.

  1. 01 / SETTell it the subject, the level, the shape of the paper, and how you want it laid out.
  2. 02 / COPYYou get one long prompt with every guardrail already written in. Copy it.
  3. 03 / SENDPaste into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, attach your notes, and it builds the PDF.

What the prompt actually stops

Every one of these is a rule written into the prompt you copy, not a hope.

PDFs built like a chat message

Rows of empty boxes where the font was never checked. Colour headings on a paper destined for a black and white photocopier. Question 7 cut in half by a page break. Marks floating mid line instead of a column at the margin. The prompt specifies the page, the font, the leading, the breaks, and the footer, then makes it open the file and look before handing it over.

A picture of a page

Some tools render the paper to an image and wrap it in a PDF, so nothing is selectable, nothing is searchable, and it prints soft. The prompt rules that out and makes it hand back real typeset text with the font embedded.

Emoji and decoration

No emoji, no emoticons, no sparkles beside section titles, no checkmarks in the answer key. A printed paper has none of that, so neither does this one.

Fonts that wander

One typeface, one size, no fancy unicode letterforms, no random bold in the middle of a question. Bold only where the layout rules put it.

Aims and objectives

A test does not announce what it measures. No aim, no learning outcome, no "students will be able to", no standard codes on the student sheet. That goes in the teacher notes at the end, if you want it at all.

Leaks from other chats

A hard reset at the top: drop every earlier subject, paper, answer key, and habit in the conversation. If a question from the last topic would fit, it still does not get used.

Chatty padding

No "Here is your test", no "I hope this helps", no offer to revise, no summary of the rules it just followed. One signature line, then the paper.

Lazy multiple choice

One defensible answer, distractors built from real misconceptions, options matched in length and grammar, the right answer spread across positions, and never "all of the above".

Papers that leak their own answers

Word banks in the same order as the blanks. Option (a) answering item 1. Six blank lines when the answer is one word. Question 4 printing the number question 11 asks you to work out. The prompt has a whole section on giveaways and a check for them.

Marks that do not add up

A silent self check before it answers: count the questions against your spec, add the marks against your total, verify the key against the paper, then fix quietly.

Guessed content

Strict mode keeps every question answerable from the material you attached, and the prompt makes it stop and say so if nothing is attached, instead of inventing a syllabus.

Questions

Do I need an account, or an API key?

Not for TestPrompter. It only writes the prompt: nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server, and no model runs here. Your settings stay in your own browser so the page remembers them next time. The PDF is built by whichever AI you paste the prompt into, so you need an account there.

Which AI should I paste it into?

One that can run code or build files, since that is what actually makes the PDF. ChatGPT with code running enabled, Claude with the analysis tool, and Gemini with Canvas all manage it. Whichever you pick, start a fresh chat, attach the material as a file rather than pasting a wall of text, and turn on the thinking or reasoning mode for long papers.

What if it cannot make a file?

The prompt has a fallback written into it. If the model genuinely has no way to attach a file, it hands back one complete HTML document already styled for print, with your page size, margins, font, and page break rules baked in, plus a single line telling you to open it and print it to PDF. You can also set it to text only in the PDF panel if you would rather paste into Word yourself.

It still slipped an emoji in. Now what?

Reply with one line: Formatting law, section 6. Reprint the paper with the violations removed and nothing else. The prompt is numbered precisely so you can point at a rule instead of arguing with the model.

Can I edit the prompt after copying it?

Yes, it is plain text and it is yours. The "Anything else" box at the bottom of the settings is the clean place to add your own rules, since whatever you type lands in its own numbered section at the end where the model reads it last.

Should I check what it produces?

Always. This makes the paper look and behave like a real test, and it makes the questions much better, but you are the one who knows your class and your syllabus. Read it before you print it.
